The core elements of the control electronics are the control and regulation logic of the drive technology and the corresponding power electronics. Depending on the application, this can be expanded as required in terms of power, motor type and connectivity. All possibilities are open for communication, from standard bus systems (CAN, RS485) to wireless solutions in real-time operation (WLAN, BLE) to supply systems with modulated data (Power Line).
What is drive technology?
We understand drive technology or systems to be the combination of control electronics – usually coupled with sensors and control engineering, a motor, a gear or a mechanical transmission, as well as application-specific mechanics including the housing.
Control electronics
The core elements of the control electronics are the control and regulation logic of the drive technology and the corresponding power electronics. Depending on the application, this can be expanded as required in terms of power, motor type and connectivity. All possibilities are open for communication, from standard bus systems (CAN, RS485) to wireless solutions in real-time operation (WLAN, BLE) to supply systems with modulated data (Power Line). The control technology in the microcontroller is fed with the help of sensors (speed, current, absolute positions, etc.). Our experts select the appropriate control algorithm based on the area of application and requirements, thus optimally regulating your application.
Motor / Gear
The motor is the heart of every drive system. Motor types such as DC, AC, BLDC motors or stepper motors range from a few tenths of a watt to a few 100 watts. In addition to the technology, we also consider the costs from the very first minute. Depending on the requirements, very inexpensive motors from Asia up to high-precision motors from Europe can be used. In most cases, a gear unit is connected upstream of the motor in order to generate appropriate torques and speeds for the application. Either a standard gear, such as a planetary gear, or an individualised gear can be developed.
Application-specific mechanics / housing
The pivotal point in all drive technology projects is the application. The interplay between selection of the right technology and application-specific mechanics plus housing is the decisive criterion for success. For example, we choose plastic injection-moulded parts for projects with high quantities, while metal parts are mostly used for applications with high mechanical loads. The solution to the customer’s problem is the focus of all these decisions. Detailed tests are part of the standard in all Digital Elektronik projects.
